LOVE

The coffee is good and the place is really cute/parisian, that’s why I give 2 stars. But the man who serves whom I presume is the owner, is a nightmare. He’s the typical angry-all-the-time, scary, Parisian stereotype. So it can really ruin your mood for a bit if you run into him and do something that he doesn’t like. He has 0 patience even tho he literally works in hospitality and that’s literally the most important part of running a coffee shop.

Wandering around Paris in need of a lunch we walked past Le Clown Bar and threw ourselves down on a seat. With no expectations the menu came at us, intimidating to someone who was after a classic French bite to eat but intriguing, clever and the sign of someone who knew what they were doing.

A charming unpretentious interior awaits you with all the cutlery you need in a drawer at your table. After a small discussion about wine we ordered the recommendation.

The appetisers were incredible sized. You could have them for a starter if there was something you preferred. We opted for the beef tartar and the crab beignet. Both were wonderfully presented and tasted amazing.

I went for the veal sweetbreads, accompanied with a smoked eel purée, bitter leaves and purslane. They were definitely the best sweetbreads I’ve had and will be thinking about them for a while. Light, delicate and wonderfully prepared. A joy to eat from start to finish.

We finished with a dessert wine and a coffee. Too full to go for the selection of desserts they had on offer.

Tout est parfait et plus que ça. Carte courte et créative, carte des vins pléthorique avec des pépites sur de vieux millésimes (laissez vous guider!) Service amical et précis. Cadre historique et intimiste.

Solid food, good atmosphere and service.

Food and service was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed the crab beignet with caviar and beef tartare. We hope to come back some day!

We came here to dine on the last night of our Paris holiday. It came highly recommended, not only online, but from our friends/family who have had stellar meals here as well.

All in all we had a wonderful meal. We were told the head chef is Korean, and we could see the Asian influences in each dish.

With the above being said however, I don’t think we’d come back if we were to vacation in Paris again.

This is because we had better meals at the same or more competitively priced. Plus, there are just so many other restaurants we would like to try or revisit.

Ultimately, we’d recommend for anyone to try Le Clown bar. Objectively, it is a well put together menu and the flavors were novel and exciting!

Ver nice food????

The food delicious, but there were issues with service. The area we were sitting ???? had bad vibes and we were sort of forgotten. Forgotten wine, forgotten cheese. We went for a French experience but got an American one. It was meant to be one the highlights of our trip but what a disappointment. Also, it’s a strange feeling to feel rushed out of French restaurant so that was odd. The sense that we should hurry and go was a bit thick in the air. Were we purposely sat next to other people from the US off in a corner? Me next to the same people I came to France to take a break from? Hopefully that was just a coincidence.

Cadre très sympa mais un peu bruyant.
Clientèle jeune et internationale. Cuisine très originale et savoureuse. Très bon service en salle.

As someone who is very bad at writing reviews, I apologise for my lateness! I went for lunch at Clown Bar for my birthday back in October, and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. I thought it only fair to leave my 5 stars, as it truly was a 5 star experience.

The best meal and service I have experienced. I work in hospitality and my partner is a professional chef, we dine out a lot and we will rave about Clown Bar for a long time. Our server (who I believe was the manager) worked the entire restaurant with ease and great attentiveness, giving personalised recommendations and a great wine suggestion!

It’s just a shame I’m UK based. If I was a local I would for sure be visiting here whenever I got the chance! I’ll be coming back to Paris just for Clown Bar.

The best meal we had on our trip! Amazing food, wine suggestions and service! Loved it.

The foods are great, looks beautiful, charming staff, is perfect.

We came here for my partner’s birthday and were very excited as we had heard great things. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

Starting with the good, the wine was excellent, and the scallops (noix Saint Jacques) were delicious. The fish of the day, sea bream, was fresh and tasty. The tartare was underwhelming.

Now the bad. We ordered the duck special for 40€. It came with two small pieces (not even 1/3 of a normal duck breast) which is such a small amount of duck. We had a couple small bites each, and realized the duck was very overcooked and chewy. Duck should never be cooked past medium rare and as you can see from the photos, it was medium well.

When the server came by and asked us how it was, we politely explained that it was overcooked. His response was to take it away and ask if we wanted dessert. Confused, we asked if they were able to remake it. He said no, it would take too long, and then asked if we wanted it back.

I was shocked, as we had already said it was overcooked so we were not going to take it back and eat it. I told him we did not expect to pay for it if this was the only option.

He spoke with his manager and said that because we already ate half of it, they were not able to take it off the bill. This is absolutely not true. We had a couple small bites of the duck and determined it was overcooked and then stopped eating. I told
him this and eventually the manager came over and lectured us, saying if you don’t like something, don’t eat half of it before saying anything.

The reason I gave 2 stars and not 1 is that they did eventually take it off the bill. Unfortunately, this really put a darkness over the whole evening. We were very excited but ended up being very disappointed, with and uncomfortable and frustrating experience with the staff.

Overall, this place is overpriced, the food is hit and miss, and the service is pretentious and rude.

You’re the clown if you try and have a drink at this “bar”

We were turned away at 10PM, 2 hours before their posted closing. The barman said they don’t have the appropriate license and can’t serve drinks when the kitchen is closed. Don’t waste your time and visit somewhere else.

Un excellent moment culinaire! Une cuisine fine. Une carte des vins engagée avec de très belles références! La nouvelle vague des grands « petits » bordeaux (les francs! Les Castillon!) manquent à l appel. Je recommande!!!

Un sans faute. De l’assiette au service, en passant par le verre et la déco. Tout est en délicatesse, très juste, équilibré et gourmand. Les saveurs sont à la fois élégantes et réconfortantes, complexes et simples : le parfait équilibre ! Cela faisait plusieurs mois, voire années, que j’essayais de réserver quand j’étais de passage à Paris et ça valait le coup d’attendre. Merci à toute l’équipe, en particulier à l’équipe de salle.

Alors oui ça a un prix mais la qualité se paie !! Mes ris de veau étaient sublimes, une belle noix rebondie et ferme. Le loup (le bar oui bon!!) de ligne mariné était dans la même veine, la carte des vins est conséquente
J'ai hâte d'y retourner !
