This campsite is only suitable for groups of friends and families coming together booking multiple pitches to spend late nights chatting and listening to loud music, I would not recommend it for families travelling on their own and who wish for a reasonable bedtime, especially those with young children.||||The good points:||The swimming pool at Charlemagne is the nicest out of the three linked parks.||My kids liked the waterslides.||The toilets are clean and have toilet roll and hand wash which is often missing on some sites.||The beach is lovely.||The company that can deliver you a fridge on site is reliable.||There are lots of places outside the campsite to eat. It felt like a Spanish strip, very busy with restaurants, shops, bars etc. You can sit in a food court and everyone can have what they fancy be it burgers, pizza, fish & chips etc. ||||The bad points:||This is the noisiest campsite I’ve ever visited. Our next door neighbours brought their karaoke machine along and were singing all evening. The site is meant to be quiet after 11pm but they were still squawking at midnight. The next night it was the other neighbours turn to play music until late. When I spoke to reception I was told that it was our responsibility to tell security about it and the noise was probably carried by the wind! Mmm. I’m not sure why it is acceptable to allocate this responsibility to the guests and it would have meant walking down to the front desk in the dark in my PJs, on holiday, to complain about my neighbours – no thanks! I assumed naively at 11.15, 11.30, 11.45pm someone would be along any minute to say something but it didn't happen. It’s an easily enforceable rule carried out effectively at other campsites as long as the evening staff do their job properly.||The pitches are small, box-like and separated by hedges. We paid for a larger pitch but it was still the smallest pitch I've ever stayed on. There is no space in between pitches for breeze so when it’s in the mid 30’s, it’s stifling hot. There is no grass, just sandy dust.||No sunbeds were available after midday at the pool. It was clear that some had thrown their towels on sunbeds at the start of the day and then left. An email was sent out to remind guests it was not allowed so the management were obviously aware but we never saw any of the towels being removed by the staff and they are on duty around the pool at all times. ||Obviously not the campsite’s fault but there are a lot of mozzies. Bring a bug light, spray and bite cream to save yourself from the constant itching.||Ants on the pitch. We had to pitch our tent over them and hope for the best. Poor things have to stay here on a permanent basis so they have my sympathy.||||We strolled down to the other two sites to see if the pools had more room but they were even busier so at least I can console myself that we managed to pick the best site of the three. ||||The good points are not nearly enough to outweigh the bad; there are many nicer campsites in the south of France. We left after the third day to save our sanity after a lack of sleep. The site didn’t have a good vibe… campers didn’t really say hello to each other which I found strange but this does tie in with the disregard to others about noise and the karaoke machine. ||||I booked for a week and it’s not cheap so huge regret. The campsite didn’t accept that our issues about the noise were valid so our refund request was refused but we did end up at a lovely quiet campsite with an amazing pool and nice vibe so it wasn’t all bad and we caught up on some sleep. I have put it down to an unfortunate experience and have learnt from it.
