Beautiful venue for a wedding. Food and beverage service was on point as well!

Living in New Orleans we do not get as many chances as I would like to stay in the beautiful homes in the area. We have not stayed here so my review is on the outside of the Degas House. We found the exterior to be lovely and the grounds are well kept. The home is located in a beautiful area of town and a great neighborhood. I would love to arrange a tour of the home and will expand my review if I can.

This is a historic space that I've attended events at and it also operates as a bed and breakfast. The noted French artist, Edgar Degas, lived here and produced some of his art here completing 18 paintings and 4 drawings before moving back to Paris. This is the only remaining home and studio of Degas who lived here for only five months when he stayed here with his mother's family during 1872 to 1873. It is a nice space for an event and it looks like it would also be an interesting place to stay at if you wanted a bed and breakfast experience. Overall this is certainly a nice spot to visit if you're in the area.

Tried to go to the degas house when I got a city pass and was instructed to call. All I got when I called 3 different times was “call you back later”

Never got a call back later

Was super annoyed by this and seems a great way to get out of a partnership deal.

We did the walking tour, which included a video, house walkthrough and then short walk through the nearby neighborhood. It was interesting to learn about Degas’ time in New Orleans, about the home and area. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and was a great host.

Ample parking, historical venue, quaint and charming building! We had the pleasure of DJing and completed a Wedding Videography package at Degas House for Jesse & Jessica October 2023 and it was a blast!

There was a little issue with the string lights near the dance floor but we had some uplights that helped remedy the situation.

Pennywell Events decorated perfectly and dressed up Degas House outdoor area so well. The ceremony and reception were a hit. One improvement to the ceremony area outdoors, in the future, is to turn off the camera chirp/alarm. Otherwise, it was beautiful, peaceful and a very celebratory evening.

We look forward to many more events later this year.

We stayed in the Jeanne Garret Room, the house itself is a beautiful building, the room however.... the bathroom has had it's best time, so bad that one of the little tiles on the floor kept sticking on my foot when exiting the bathroom. When I wanted to take a shower, I almost lost my balance because the whole bathtub was loose. The airco was no luxury with the tempreratures at the time off our stay but we couldn't sleep from the racket the airco made. We where there for two nights, after the second night we had no breakfast, we were the only people in the house and the office was closed because it was Sunday, nobody there to help us out. We did make a mistake to not try to adress the manager by phone but we were on a tight shedule.
That room didn't enhaced our experience of New Orleans at all.

The location however is great.

If you'd rather enjoy a quieter side of town, this is the spot. It's a very well cared for gorgeous home built in the 1800s with some room options that include a private balcony & even a kitchen. We received complimentary breakfast served fresh daily & the option of mimosas or bloody Mary's. And of course, coffee & tea available. The staff was amazing, they made us feel at home. Big shout out to Ms. Dee, Sharon Parker & Mathew Rhodes for your great service. Hope to stay there again on our next trip to NOLA.

3ème étage à éviter : pas de fenêtres, literie a changer et ménage plus que défaillant. De plus très bruyant.

Nice hotel and space
Only complaint we had were our neighbors, they were extremely extremely loud

This tour is pretty interesting. Mrs. Liz was my tour guide and I was the only person there. They generally have larger groups. What I didn’t like is you are not allowed to take photos. There are no original Degas paintings on site and the 2 houses that were once 1 are still being renovated. They split the house in 1920. The tour lasted an hour which was plenty for me. I’m sure if a large group and questions then it would be

The trees in front of homes were planted in 1820. Edgar Degas visited for 4 or 5 months from starting late 1872. Seems he really didn’t like the heat and never had anything good to say about NOLA. But it’s where he started painting ‘Impressionism’ but he said he was a ‘realist’! Seems Degas never really appreciated NOLA although he had his breakthrough there. He also wrote about the many skins colors in NOLA but only painted Caucasian’s. Maybe because his mothers blood line had African descendants…

His uncle was renting the house (1869-1879) never owned it. When Degas visited there were 18 people living there. The story is filled with family drama. His brother Rene’ married his first cousin on mom side which I guess this was their way! When he left her for the neighbor this split the 2 families.

The tour included a parlor which is now a dining area for brunch and the actual dining room. We also toured the room where he stayed in while visiting.

I read about DeGas so most of the information I already knew. There is a 30 minute film shown before tour.
I recommend touring this house if in area. The cost is $30 but they give senior/military discount. I paid $26. You can also stay at house. The Le Musee museum is almost next to it and I highly recommend this tour because it’s outstanding!!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. We booked the Degas House for our wedding. I wish I didn't. Termites in the rooms, ran out of alcohol and beer half way through the reception, Kathy (the wedding planner) was extremely rude and not accommodating. One of guests got stung by a bee because there was a huge nest outside one of the main entrance doors. Could not get in contact with David (the owner) because Kathy was being the gate keeper and would not pass along any of our messages or connect him to us, when trying to make a complaint. They made my wedding hell and I wish they would own up to how terrible there service was. DO NOT BOOK HERE!

Historic landmark with well kept grounds and a beautiful interior. Five stars if I didn't feel so exposed to crime when I visited.

Horrible !
