Eine lokale Adresse ohne Schnickschnack im Herzen von Castro. Starbelly serviert das, was die Amerikaner als Comfort Food bezeichnen: einfache, schmackhafte Gerichte. Die holzgetäfelte Inneneinrichtung und der von Kräutern umhüllte Innenhof bieten mittags oder am frühen Abend einen einzigartigen Rahmen. Was die Küche betrifft, so wechselt das Menü je nach Markt und Lust und Laune des Küchenchefs. Die Gerichte sind einfallsreich und gut gewürzt. Wir mögen die Pizza Bacon-Arugula (Rucola), die hausgemachte Pastete und das Bavette. Gute Weinkarte zu vernünftigen Preisen.

The hominy fritters were the most memorable part of the meal - the lemon aioli was super tangy and delish. My husband had the chorizo pizza with sunnyside up eggs. For me, the pizza was too floppy, but I'm just not a fan of needing to fold my slice.
I went for the fresh spaghetti with Starbelly bacon: the noodles were extra thick and fun to eat, but I do prefer my bacon crispier than their half-bacon, half-pork belly approach. Good sauce, good cheese.
We finished it off with lillet-soaked cherries in an arborio rice pudding. Did the cherries make any sense with the pudding? No! But I'm always going to be happy shoveling rice pudding in my mouth.
Would go again!

I've been going to Starbelly consistently since they opened in 2009, averaging 1 - 2 times a month. Over the course of the last year or so, the quality of the food and the service, which used to be consistent, has gone downhill. I don't know if it was a management change or all the new folks on staff? Either way, my experience on Sunday was unacceptable. The service was horrendous, the food was rushed and not timed properly based on our order of appetizers, mains and sides, it all came out at once - before the drink order no less. Multiple failed attempts to deliver the right cocktails, no apologies, no excuses, just bad, bad service. I never did see that server again after he took our order. I had to walk up to the front of the restaurant to ask for our check. What a shame, Starbelly used to be on my recommendation list for visitors, I won't be going back until some serious changes happen.

Consistently good, California small plates perfect for sharing. Clean and refreshing tastes served in smart surroundings at a reasonable rate. Perfect for a first date or catch up with friends. Dog-friendly either in front or in back patio.

I ordered a burger, but a bit disappointed. It was dry, wasn’t juicy and overcooked. Steak wasn’t really good as expected.
Prices are reasonable.
Service was good, it was a main reason I gave 4 stars. Overall experience was ok. Will come back again if I go to Castro neighborhood.
