Pros:
- The room (as described above)
- The staff (all very nice)
- The location (as needed to get to the Moscone Center every day).
- The Redwood Room (bar) - It's iconic and must have at least one cocktail there if you plan on staying at The Clift.
Cons:
- The location (as it's a zombie apocalypse outside) - I do not recommend walking in this area alone (especially at night).
- I got charged $75 for an early check in - I mean if the room was already ready/available - no need to charge me for that. With that said, I got an upgrade out of it so it kind of evened out.
All and all - I had a great stay at The Clift and would very much recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to have a nice room in San Francisco.
Although we've only been in one room of the redesign of the cliffs Hotel gone were the lucite tables and the pink lighting and independence factor. Unfortunately the lobby was kind of like the Hilton around the corner and the room was spacious the bathroom was perfect but again the furniture was kind of meh.
The Clift isnt supposed to look like any other Hotel. And it just kind of does now. But all in all it's still one of the best stays in San Francisco.
All the updates took away alot ofthe charm which I am praying somebody in management recognizes and they bring back the big chairs in the lobby and the doorman that used to be so friendly and now they're just kind of average. I would still recommend it above almost any hotel in the neighborhood.
The so called room upgrade for which we had to pay an extra $30 is on the 13th floor with a nice view but nothing to right home about. The amenities in the room is what you would find in a courtyard and the TV is not high def. The mattresses are soft and so are all the pillows.
There is parking on the street but finding one is a challenge. The hotel doesn’t have self parking and valet is $75 a day. The cheapest public parking two blocks away is $43/day.
Location wise it is a few blocks from union square which is nice but if you make the wrong turn and go down two blocks from the hotel, you will run into San Francisco’s unfortunate homeless communities with a lot of drug addicted mixed in. It’s a scary scene.
