I had a great stay while attending a conference. The service is great! The owner is kind, genuine and helpful. The location is very convenient for going to the conference center.
The rooms like I said are the only downside. They are small and outdated in almost every way. This can be overlooked though as everything is functional and clean.
One other major downside is I believe this hotel is used by the unhoused during convention off times as there is a lingering smell that takes some effort to overlook. This was the main reason for me giving a lower rating. I know for most this will be extremely off-putting.
All that said I still highly recommend this as a great budget place to stay during a convention or a brief solo stay for someone who isn't too picky about modern amenities or places with some quirks. The service, location and price alone make it worth your while.
The rooms are small but comfortable; the people are true professionals; and the classic 1950s style NY diner is a wonderful bonus.
I enjoyed my two week stay here and have already recommended the Touchstone to friends .
My only misgiving, due to no fault of the owners, is the surrounding neighborhood can be a little seedy due to the drug epidemic that's raging in San Francisco. I personally would not be walking around after hours, but it's safe during the daytime.
The small rooms were nice despite their size, but the bed was so hard that I barely slept either night we were there.
Also, with it being downtown, it was quite noisy.
Between the extra fees, parking, and the security deposit, we paid for the equivalent of 5 nights on a 2 night stay.
It was clean and pretty well maintained though, so for San Francisco, while it was still expensive, it was relatively affordable.
