DOLPHIN HOUSE RESORT

Apart from the surroundings, staff was friendly and the food was very delicious and well presented.
I found the location to be good - but be aware that the roads in and out are narrow and busy so it can take a long time to get to the places that you may wish to visit whilst there. If you just want to relax, dive/snorkel and stay very local - no problems. To get to Badian/Kawasan Falls takes about 45-60 minutes. White beach is right next to the hotel.
I found check-in and the service to be really good. The staff called me by my first name from the moment we met. Reception closes at 6pm so you need to be on the ball with anything you might need.
Sustainability and eco-friendliness is high priority here and that is very refreshing. Keep in mind therefore that you are asked to order main meals in advance in order to keep waste to a minimum, so have a daily plan as there's a cut-off time for ordering. I had a beautiful spicy tuna belly meal one night - super fresh as I saw the whole tuna fish arrive on a trike a few hours before it landed on my plate. Big fish too (and absolutely delicious!). I had a smoked fish starter and a fresh fruit dessert and it was 990PHP - pricey for Philippines but convenient and worth every cent - you'd pay 5 times that in the west for the quality so I was happy with this. 3 course set dinner is 990PHP but you can just order the main which was about 600PHP. I understand that there are half/full board options but I was just B&B. Breakfast had multiple options - something for everyone - and I was happy with the American style. Traditional Filipino breakfast and pancakes also available and other western options too.
The common areas are all really well kept and you can practice your diving/snorkelling in the pool. I could not find the gym. The gardens are really pretty with native plants and flowers.
The views and sunset from the hotel are stunning. When I say hotel, it's actually more like individual bungalows, each with a patio where you can sit and a stocked fridge with very well priced drinks (eg Coke 100PHP and San Miguel 170PHP). My room was fairly small and I wasn't accommodated in the basic room.
Now for the downside - this is pretty much the most expensive place around. If you aren't spending a lot of time at the hotel, it makes it a pricey stay plans changed last minute and I needed a transfer back to Cebu, which I had been advised by my friends (locals) would be between 2000-4000PHP. So when I was asked for 6000PHP, I was surprised. Granted it was an aircon private transfer BUT another friend did the same journey from another location nearby, also private transfer in aircon vehicle, and was charged only 3000PHP. So when I came to pay and they asked me for 6600PHP with no explanation, I was pretty annoyed. Sadly, I had no option and there was no room for negotiation - staff were not interested in making this more reasonable. Given the cost of the room stay already being so high, I was pretty disappointed with this scenario and I felt as though I had totally been taken advantage of, which leaves a really bitter taste.
So whilst I had a good stay overall, I probably wouldn't go to this location again, unless I had arrangements for transport that are more reasonable.
