WAX HOSTEL

¡¡¡Chinches en la cama!!!
Me hospedé en la noche del 27 de Febrero 2024, en la habitación Windsurf cama #5 y desperté porque comenzó la picazón después de media noche, encontré varias ronchas -que me salen porque soy muy alérgica-. Prendí la luz y había una chinche sobre mi libro y después en la cama #3 vi dos chinches más caminando.

No tomé foto de todas, pero subo algunas, había de varios tamaños. Moví el colchón y sacudí las sábanas. Vi al menos 5 sobre mi cama.

Pasé el resto de la noche en una silla de plástico en la sala, incómoda y con frío. Mandé un mensaje al whatsapp de la empresa pero nunca respondieron nada, la chica del staff encargada de servir el desayuno se disculpó y nos pidió esperar hasta las 9am para que llegará la manager( la cual llegó después de esa hora).

La primera reacción de la manager (por instrucciones del dueño) fue sugerir que yo o la compañera de habitación habíamos traído las chinches, lo cual fue rudo después de la terrible noche que pasé. Esperaba una disculpa.

Me devolvieron mi dinero, que es lo MÍNIMO que debían hacer porque como servicio que ofrecen no cumplieron con entregar una espacio digno para dormir. Al final de cuentas siendo viajera perdí toda la mañana en tratar de solucionar que TODA la ropa se lavara para evitar que se propaguen y por supuesto perdí la oportunidad de hacer un tour por la mañana. Mi tiempo nadie me lo reembolsó.

Busqué en las reviews y vi que no había nada de bichos pero creo que me hubiera gustado saber cómo estaba la situación para tomar mejores decisiones. Es verdad que ese mismo día llegó el control de plagas y que con máscaras y todos trataron esa habitación. No sé el estado del resto del hostal y desconozco si todas las otras habitaciones las puedan tener. Solo cuento mi experiencia en especifico. Tal vez después de la desinfección ya no sea un problema para los futuros viajeros.

En todo caso este review es una invitación para ir bien preparados y llevar químicos para protegerse.

I agree with this information from the owner of the hostel, but I was really upset to get it as the first reaction in the morning after a sleepless night. Was he trying to put the blame on us???
After some discussion (always through his stuff), I got a refund for the accommodation and permission to use the washing machine. A drying service was not provided, which makes it really complicated since everything has to be washed, including the clothes you are wearing.
There was no help to get things to the washing salon for drying and no offer for a refund of the money I spent (13 Euros) which I find really unprofessional.
They managed this very unpleasand situation well in terms of getting the pest control in quick, but there is no appreciation for the valuable time of holidays. I lost a whole day!

One of the best hostels I ever stayed in, great views and location

This is the perfect place for a longer stay in a Faro Hostel. It is a quiet and well kept facillity, this is a not a party hostel or a place to be obnoxious and loud.
I would not recommend it for children especially if they're demanding, it will bore them silly.
It is a safe and secure space to sleep, shower, relax, eat and read after a days sightseeing or being on the beach.
There is a personal safe provided with 24 hr access to keep your passport and valuebles secure. I would also recommend you leave your room key in the safe, there is a code for the main door and if you lose the key it's €50 and a load of hassle especially if it's late at night.
A fully fitted kitchen with plenty of dishes, plates, glasses, cups etc and plenty of space to eat inside or outside on the veranda.
Cleaning up after yourself, especially in the bathrooms and the kitchen was a common curtiousy everyone adhered to and very nice to see, which is not often the case in larger hostels.
Cláudia the host/manager is a lovely lady who is strict and fair to everybody, but will not tolerate fools who upset other guests.

Noise late at night (1am+) would be hers and other guests pet hate as some guests have to leave early for tours and flights.
Directly across the road from the hostel is the 'sister' business the WAX Bar and Restaurant.
The staff there mirror the hostels , warm, friendly, helpful and polite.
Here they serve a good variety of dishes at reasonable prices and are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
They also have an outside dinning area overlooking the beach, and this is truely a wonderful experience to sit there, drink, eat and watch the sun go down.
I would recommend getting a seat an hour before sunset.
I could get up, leave the hostel, walk to beach across the road and be swimming in the sea in under 5 minutes without rushing.

Tips:
Be polite, manners cost nothing and your in someone else's property.

Use the Ferry €3.75 return for a 25 minute cruise (5kph) in the sun to and from Faro a 12 minute walk along the beach wooden footpath or on the road. (No cars or bikes on the beach therefore no car or bike accidents!)

Download the 'Bolt' taxi app at the airport.
Cheaper and better than 'Uber'.
Be aware! It can difficult to get a car to come out to the hostel from Faro town in the evening so make sure you have time.

When you arrive at the airport go straight to Pingo Doce supermarket (750m) get a Bolt and get your supplies for the hostel first. This will not only save you money but allow you to relax without having to go out to get fed or have a coffee etc.

The hostel veranda faces due East so a great place to sit have breakfast, good coffee and watch the sun rise.

Sometimes everyone wants everything at the same time, be patient and remember your on holidays.????
