however, overall it was really good and the staff are absolutely amazing and so so helpful, beyond any expectations which is great.
Wouldnt recommend the restaurant just UP the road, was a bit bland and unspecial considering what is in the town just 15 mins walk away, the hotel did recommend but we felt it a total let down.
Make sure to visit the Regina Biaggio beach, busy but special and tour that area, there is more to see and a snack bar up above.
Overall a really great place, just a bit basic.
The location is perfect however traffic at the front is non stop mopeds and loud bikes, close the doors and its fine.
The rooms are clean and spacious, the view is breathtaking especially from the rooftop, the location is perfect as it's only 10 minutes walk from the city center, and most importantly Stefano and the whole staff is super friendly and very helpful !
I highly recommend to stay at hotel Britannia if you want to experience the best customer service !
Stefano, the owner, and his staff are very warm, helpful, professional and ensure to have the most comfortable stay. The hotel and rooms are always clean. The rooms are spacious. The view from the room and the rooftop are breathtaking. The hotel has a nice terrasse overlooking the street and the sea. The rooftop has sunbeds, chairs, a jacuzzi and a mesmerizing view over the sea.
Always a pleasure to enjoy the Amalfi coast from Hotel Britannia.
Special thanks to Stefano and the amazing staff.
The room: We checked into our room which was decent size with a small balcony looking out to what seemed to be a lemon tree farm. There wasn't much bedding and only two pillows, although we found more blankets in the closet days into our stay, they were a bit dusty. Every time we would shower, the water smelled largely of cigarette smoke.
The location: it is quite the 15 minute walk to the center of Sorrento, as it is on a hill with only about half the walk having sidewalk. We got used to it, but I wouldn't say it's for those who have trouble walking! There was a nearby beach club that I utilized that was more private, but quite expensive.
The service/amenities: Our room would get cleaned, but the bedding wouldn't be changed so I'm not sure about that but Stefano was an incredible host and so nice and knowledgable. They also play great music on the terrace, which is cute spot to watch the sunset. The roof terrace closed early so we couldn't watch sunset there, but the jucuzzi was a nice touch just small.
The food: There is no restaurant, but they do offer a small breakfast. It wasn't anything too crazy but the minimum. We wished they had more food options nearby or a restaurant just because the walk for food or even snacks can get tiring.
Sorrento in general, you probably don't need more than a couple days in. It's small and cute and fun to explore, but you can do it all pretty quickly. We actually ended up leaving a day early to go to Naples to be closer to our flight, but also for a change of scenery.
Overall, nice experience but we probably will explore other areas next adventure!
Lo consiglierei….
Good stay but nothing memorable except the friendly staff that really helped us in every request.
That’s the reason I would go there again. A smile make your vacation better!
When I was a kid, I was always jealous of my friends in class, who always stayed on “charter hotels” in the south with the parents, while I stayed at home. This was my first time at one, at the age of 23, and it was an eyeopener that I did waste my time back then being jealous, and let me tell you why.
Let´s start with the staff. To be fair they were indeed very friendly and welcoming. Nothing there. But I do wonder why the staff doesn´t speak English. I would understand if it was a village in nowhere or in country with another second language that English, Spanish or French for an example, but this is Sorrento in Italy – An extremely touristed place with many English-speaking visitors. The staff behind the table does not even do themselves the favor to learn basic sentences to communicate with the guests.
The room: The room was clean, the air-condition worked perfect. It was furnished unpersonal and made to store people in a certain amount of time. It’s clearly not made to be home- alike.
The breakfast situation: It looked like the canteen at my old boarding school. Cheap blue plastic chairs at small fragile tables stacked in a big room with no paintings, plants or anything to make it comfortable to eat in. It sends the signal, that here you are eating and moving again right after. It’s not a place to smalltalk and start the day slowly. They played techno- pop music way too high at 8 o’clock in the morning. The white toast was dry and not even warmed. All the food was ordered from outside. Nothing was homemade with love. It was just stacked one by one. It was not welcoming and inviting on the table as it should be. No nutritions, no gains. Food should be an experience, not a duty. People pay 135 Euros for one night, at least the breakfast should be the good start of the day.
The problem is that people think they should be satisfied with this. They look at the other quests who are “satisfied” and then they get cultured into thinking that this is the right standard for 135 Euros, or then they content with the mistake to check in here and move to another place without saying anything, because they have already moved on with the trip. The moral here: When you have traveled across Europe, expect that the staff does an effort for it, because you can expect a certain standard for your money.
The Jaqusie was nice with a great view. It could have been nicer if a camera in the ceiling didn't stare directly at you the whole time.
All of this seems like small things and details, but it makes the overall picture look lazy and effortless.
I could not experience staying a week in these industrial surroundings, and if this is the standard of “charter Hotels,” I do not understand the hype or convenience about it.
Now you think, "Why don't you just walk away and move on", but I think it's a favor to be honest in the review – At least for the forthcoming travelers.
