A lovely location for a holiday, though I was there very briefly and for business. 340km from Harare airport!! Quite an experience, and needs time to be fully enjoyed.
The place is good for an urban environment stay. Near the beautiful lake and bringing out a magnificent lake view. The rooms are very clean and everything you need away from home. There is a need to add a few touch ups, the WiFi is not top notch to compensate for the poor mobile network reception.
We stopped by here after visiting Great Zimbabwe. The view over Lake Kyle is worth the visit but the late breakfast added to the experience. A classic country hotel from my childhood, it brought back happy memories of travels with my parents. Food was excellent and great value.
Very nice place! The grounds are fantastic, all landscaping is superb. The restaurant is a blast to the past but very proper and fancy feeling. Staff are over the top with service. Wi-Fi is free but sporadically goes out (maxes out around 3mbps, more often closer to 500kbps to 2mbps).
There are two campsites both are good, but the one closer to the lake has a better view.
USD$15 to camp
A dinner main course alone was around $8. Very reasonable.
They accept USD and can process international credit cards in USD (mine was a visa).
Unprofessional!
We had one night booked at this hotel and arrived in the late afternoon to check in - only to hear, that the hotel is overbooked and we need to stay in their other hotel “Glenlivet” which was 1 hour (!) away from the initially booked hotel.
The hotel was an absolute disappointment. They had to send staff over to actually open it up first (because it was very apparent that this hotel is not in use).
-The rooms were not made up when we arrived
-the rooms were dirty
-the bed sheets/towels were dirty
-our room had a bath tub without a shower head, which made it impossible to shower considering how dirty this bathtub looked
-There was no power
-no wifi
Usually if a hotel is overbooked I would expect them to provide an alternative on the same level.
They did not even over any kind of compensation for this.
This is unprofessional and I can only recommend to avoid this hotel
Beautiful place. Welcoming staff. The resort was fully booked so I had to tent camp but it was tranquil and scenic. Woke up to nice views of the lake and really enjoyed taking in the morning scenery. Wifi was intermittent. Bath/wash room was clean and very nice, though the shower was cold. Overall solid experience and nice place.
Great location but definitely had better days! Now I consider 120$ just a ripoff. Room is definitely old and partially not in a good shape, the camping site was right in front of our room (terrible loud ), a lot of mosquitoes but no mosquito net, food was super salty and definitely too expensive for what you got. Really sad. Also the welcoming was rather unfriendly. Not worth a stop in my opinion.
Nice location, quiet, and allows for very interesting walking trails among wild animals. Our only comment is that in these days and age, there should not be a reason to limit internet to 300MB a day
