Some downsides:
- No elevator (they do mention that if you need help with your luggage, contact them 48h before your stay & they can help)
- Noise: Because of the location, it is understandable, but flagging that this is in a busy part of town. The garbage / recycling do come early in the morning but it wasn’t as bad as I expected (I saw the comment from the other poster but I did stay in the 3rd floor so maybe that’s why the noise was not as bad?). I did also still hear some ambiance noise from the nearby restaurant until 12am too but it wasn’t too disturbing & I could tune it out.
Overall, it’s a nice hotel and I’ll likely return again.
Edit (2023): I came back again this year and it remains my fav hotel in Montreal.
I found the descriptions of rooms confusing. It seems that all rooms on the 2nd floor have kitchenettes but no desk (there is a desk in the common space); all rooms on the 3rd floor have desks but no kitchenettes (there is a shared kitchen). I had to change rooms because I needed to work and the dining chairs provided in my 2nd floor room were very uncomfortable to sit on. Also, my first room (#203) faced a cobbled street so I could hear every time a car passed during the night, and and the noise of a truck that comes and makes really loud noise at 7:15 in the morning (ear plugs provided for a reason!). The chairs needed to be repaired, I found rubbish from the person who stayed before. After I moved to the 3rd floor things were marginally better (room #305 faced the courtyard, a little less noise but still noisy when the garbage collectors come early in the morning, and there was an A/C compressor humming right outside my bathroom window). One of the drawers of the desk was broken. I also felt unsafe as all the doors are controlled by codes so in theory anyone with the code can open your door. There is no chain or bolt locks or anything that can secure the door from the inside.
On the plus side, the beds were comfortable beds, the furniture was modern, and the bathrooms were clean. I will be looking elsewhere for my next stay in Montreal.
