Nice place for stay over, good restaurant near by in walking distance

Booked a two night stay here for a family getaway, during the weekend of Feb 17, 2024. Room 23, which is dubbed a family room is right beside reception. You can hear people at reception in the room, so it is not actually good for people with young children.

The room smelled like septic gas. I’m not a plumber, so I don’t know what was causing the smell. However, it is quite unpleasant.

We decided right away that the room would not work for our family. My wife tried cancelling the second night because we were within the 24 hour cancellation window. Initially the receptionist, Sim, gave my wife a really hard time, but ultimately cancelled our second night.

We kind of accepted that we would have to stay the first night, even though it wasn’t great.

Around 8 pm when we were all going to bed, we noticed a motion sensor light outside our room kept turning on and off. The blinds didn’t mitigate the light flashing in our room, and our son couldn’t fall asleep.

We asked the receptionist if there was something that could be done about the light. She simply said there was nothing she could do.

We had to leave the hotel at 8:30 pm, and booked at the St Paul hotel, which is much nicer, and not that much more expensive.
The second night in Montreal, we stayed at St Sulpice in Old Montreal. Again, it is not that much more in terms of price, but is much nicer, and the service was much better than Hotel Paris.

I tried to negotiate with the manager of the Paris Hotel to pay half our rate for the first night. $375 / 2, so $187.50 for the first night. I’m not rich, so was trying to recoup some cost, considering we had to book with another hotel for the same night. I understand that they are running a business, and was open to pay a portion for things like cleaning costs.

The manager agreed, and said he would refund half the money for our first night. He never did. I tried calling the hotel on Thursday, February 23, 2024 – However, the manager never returned my message.

Terrible experience. I would never stay here, and never recommend this hotel. I’d recommend checking out St Sulpice or the Saint Paul hotel if you stay in Montreal. It is worth the extra $100 a night just to avoid the poor service and hotel conditions at Paris hotel.

Do not trust the photos, they are NOT reflective of the condition it is in now, it seems the current ownership has let the building run down. The bed was so uncomfortable I could not sleep the entire first night and had back pain the next day... I am usually someone who can sleep anywhere. I mentioned it to the front desk staff whose only response was to require me to pay an additional $50 for an upgrade, and refused to provide me with a receipt for this (I paid cash, foolishly). The new "upgraded room" was dirty, had tons of dirt and debris under the bed and packing tape holding the electrical outlets into the wall (an electrical hazard). I again mentioned this to the customer service which basically said there was nothing they could do, nor would they refund me the $50 upgrade I was required to pay for a dirty room with electrical hazards. I was promised by the manager, Saami that I'd have an email to follow up on my concerns. I've emailed them multiple times since this (6 months ago) and have never received a response. Their customer service is non-existent.

The included breakfast looked like food poisoning waiting to happen (cold cuts, cheese and fruit sitting out for hours covered in flies) so I opted out of it.

The only redeeming quality was it was walkable distance to lots of restaurants, shops and a lovely park. This made it easier to spend my whole days outside to avoid staying in the gross room.

Stay elsewhere.

(photos uploaded are the room I paid extra to upgrade to)

Always loved this place and now I believe with new management, even better. Very helpful, the place is clean and charming.

Unfortunately there was this rain gutter that fell and was constantly banging against the window making sleep impossible.

Booked a grande queen room, received a double bed. Was not informed while booking there wouldn't be a tub in the room and only a shower. Also room 25 has 2 windows, both have no view and one is right near a faulty light up sign that blinks through the curtains all night. Breakfast is a little lacking on quality, mostly cold cereal and toast, or bagels. Not to far from metro so that was a bonus.

Edit: Response to owner. The bed was a doube, I sleep in a queen normally.

Didn't include note of stained towels, wall outlet not secured to wall, TV without working TV remote, only cable box, screw popped out on floor on the guard between rooms. Stairs to building were not salted and had ice on them. Shower was a 2' square with not enough room to clean self properly.

RESPONSE TO OWNER
Yes—we chose a budget room. It gives you guys no excuse to neglect it, or any other rooms there. How does that reflect the way you treat the hotel as a whole?

Yes, we were moved to another room. Address the mold issue. I’m sure it’s not just in that bigger room. And get a cleaning crew that actually cleans the rooms.

Your reply was no surprise and reflects why the quality overall stinks even after bad reviews from months ago. Good luck-this sketchy business model will catch up soon enough.

This is by far THE WORST excuse for a hotel I have ever wasted money on in my life. This is the price to pay for trying to travel on the cheap. Gordon Ramsey would have a fit if he visited this place.

The original room we booked had non-working bedside lights, you know, the STANDARD lighting in EVERY hotel in existence? One sconce was dead, and the other didn’t even have a lightbulb. The bathroom was nasty and dusty.

We were moved to a dual queen bed room, even grosser. Dusty sink, toilet right up against the side wall so you have to maneuver your legs to use the toilet. At least the towels were clean—can’t go wrong with bleach.

The window wall had mold all around the AC unit, and the window treatment is barely hanging on for dear life.

The stairwell has ripped carpeting all around with dirty laundry bags scattered.

Our “complimentary” “breakfast” looked very sad—some dried up looking cheese and cold cuts, rock-hard/stale bagels and some yogurt. The word “bistro” in the name is a complete joke. Filthy, dungeon-like, completely obvious that the owners don’t care at all about running a hotel business.

Complete waste of money.

On top of this, knowing that the car theft situation in Montreal for US plates is off the charts, we were advised to pay $40 to park our car for the night. Reluctantly I did. I had to drive it underneath a tent with just enough clearance for my side view mirrors, cramped between the hotel and the adjacent building. This was their “secure” on-premise parking “amenity.” Can anyone spell B.S.?

Avoid this place like the plague.

Reading much older reviews with owner responses such as “We’ve noted your comments” shows the staff don’t care at all about this place.

My wife is pregnant, and with her constipation issues, the only positive that came out of this one-night entrapment was that the coffee was so bad that it helped her go right away.

We came to explore Toronto and chose Hotel de Paris for our stay. Receptionist Samuel was very sweet, polite, and helpful. I appreciate it a lot.

Regarding the hotel, perhaps more attention should be given to room maintenance. Additionally, the breakfast menu could include simpler options. Just a suggestion.

Everything was very nice.

I recently had the misfortune of staying at this hotel for the first time, and it was by far the worst experience I've ever had. One of the most disappointing aspects was the receptionist, a woman who embodied rudeness. Her lack of professionalism was astounding, and she seemed utterly disinterested in providing any semblance of customer service.

However, what truly raises serious concerns is the suspicion of fraudulent activity. After my stay, I discovered unauthorized transactions on my credit card exactly one month later. Upon further investigation, it became apparent that my personal and credit card details had been misused, and the only plausible explanation was that the hotel was responsible for the breach. This raises serious questions about the security measures in place and whether the owners and managers are aware of, or even complicit in, such activities.
