While there are A LOT of steps to get to the rooftop bar, it is well worth it. Great views and the whole area is surrounded by herbs and fruit grown for the restaurant. Smells amazing!
Well worth a visit (and a climb).
The waitresses were very unfriendly. We just ordered food and didn’t even ask for something extra - so we are still wondering why they acted so bad. Even before ordering food, the moment we sat there the waitress came to tell us we only have 1.5 h so we should order fast but in a very unfriendly way?
The only thing we asked was when a friend came in to pick us up in the end when we were about to leave but we just wanted to finish off our beers and leave, so we asked if we could use a chair until people for the other tables arrive (there were plenty) - they said no saying they are booked? Which is fine we only wanted to take it for 5 min until we finish off our beer but they said no again in a very unfriendly way. There were plenty like lots (!) of free chairs - what’s the harm in using them for a few minutes until people arrive? No one came at the time we left. They all remained empty. Even our friend that came in for literally 5 min thought it’s weird.
It’s sad that they have such unfriendly service despite amazing food. It’s also sad to be treated bad as we were looking forward to enjoy a nice Sunday roast in this place. Hence, I don’t think I’ll go there again :/.
I never experienced a restaurant doesn’t have a spare chair even through many tables are empty.
Such a shame really, feel sorry for the owners
Didn't eat here but the food looked good.
Drinks and prices were standard for the area.
Got quite busy and we had to stand for a little while.
Pushy waitress - who wanted me to divide the bill. So I knocked 20 quid off before I divided by four. She couldn't even tell - so there is a good way of saving money in this financial crisis.
A very unfriendly girl told us to sit at the bar for drinks while a couple of customers were sitting around the place.
But we came for dinner. Then without any excuse or friendly word we were told the kitchen was closed and she turned around and walked away. At 5 pm. Such a beautiful place, good vibes at first sight... It's a shame!
We have stayed at the Buxton 3 times this year which is so lovely - but the Culpepper was awful.
Rooms need redecorating . Decor is tired, walls look like there’s been a leak,
Holes in the wall, broken window frames.
I understand the look they were going for many years ago but it needs seriously updating .
The room was noisy with building work at 8am underneath us. Didn’t even stay for our breakfast as we just wanted to get away from the place. Stairwell was messy on the way in and out. When leaving in the morning it felt like you weren’t meant to be there.
Very Unprofessional management when I let them know about the stay.
Should be embarrassed of charging £175. Hoping that the owner sees this, and thinks about putting a little more effort into the experience for people.
I did try emailing as I don’t like to leave a review - but was ignored so don’t waste your money staying here .
We arrived around half an hour before our reservation bc of miserable weather, thinking we'd just have a drink in the downstairs area, however they were able to seat us on the first floor right away. At first glance, our table looked a little small for four, but actually it was plenty spacious enough.
The service was spot on and the food was great. It could have done to be a touch warmer, but that's my only note. I ordered the roast pork belly and the portion was so generous that I had to choose bewteen finishing it or the cauli cheese I'd ordered on the side. Two of the four desserts were out of stock by the time we ordered, but we knew that was a risk coming at the very end of the roast hours.
The restaurant itself was cosy and warm, we could hear each other without straining, which is always a bonus.
Would definitely recommend for a roast and I intend to come back in the summer to check out the roof terrace.
