The staffs were excellent. Always happy to help you and answer all the questions you have.
They only have one shower room each at two of the floors I went to, which initially made me worried. But I never had to queue to shower, and it’s always kept in clean condition.
The bells of St Paul’s does ring often, but wasn’t loud enough to disrupt your rest. I never needed earbuds.
They have two options for breakfast: English breakfast and the continental menus ie. cereals, croissants, etc. The English breakfast was always delicious and helps to keep you full while exploring London.
Location was good, only a few minutes walk to the bus stop and underground. To St Pancras was just 10 minutes which was important to me as I depart/arrive in London there. It was near to some of the places I want to go to ie. Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and St Paul’s of course, and to other places around 30 minutes by public transport which makes sense to me because London is huge.
Downsides as I mentioned, not as modern as other hostels ie. Wombat’s, but YHA makes up for it in all the other aspects. I’ve stayed at Wombat’s hostels in Vienna and Budapest, so from what I read through the reviews, they have the same issues ie. stuffy rooms, need to make your own bed, too simple choice of breakfast and it was also the highly expensive compared to other hostels. For the price Wombat’s is charging, I would expect a level of service similar (or better) than YHA.
I would definitely stay at this hostel or their other locations next time I’m in London.
The beds had built-in power outlets, however they didn't really work well. We ended up using the wall outlets to charge our electronics. We were also right next to the showers but one of them was out of order. The toilets were at the end of the hall but one of them was out of order as well, so I ended up needing to wait for one to become available a couple times.
It wasn't too noisy considering we were facing a busy street and some people complain about the bells coming from St. Paul's being distracting as they ring essentially every 15 minutes, but I got used to it pretty quickly and was able to sleep just fine.
Wifi is only available in the shared spaces and not the rooms, so that might be difficult for people who rely on wifi connection.
We didn't take advantage of their breakfast offerings, though they seem to have a nice variety of hot and cold food to choose from. They even seemed to have a couple vegan items that I could have eaten, but I wasn't going to pay nearly £10 just to only eat like two items.
Check in and check out were easy.
And grate breakfast for 10€ ;)
